Proposed Pilgrimage Itinerary *
Day 1 - Monday 27th July Depart Dublin
Check-in at Dublin airport for Aer Lingus flight to Santiago. On arrival, you will be met by your guide and
transferred to your hotel in Vigo where you will stay in the 4 star Hotel Hesperia Vigo for 4 nights with
breakfast. Dinner in hotel for before returning for the night.
Day 2 - Tuesday 28th July | Tui - Redondela 31.9km
This is a somewhat long stage; it can be shortened by spending the night in O Porri�o or in the small villages
of Veigada�a or R�a (Mos). The day's route takes place in an urbanized area with excessive asphalt;
fortunately, in 2013 an alternative route was created through the As G�ndaras natural area and along the
Louro River, avoiding the cumbersome industrial park of O Porri�o, the largest in Galicia. Furthermore, the
only significant climb today is the ascent to the chapel of Santiagui�o, where we gain 147 meters of altitude in
3.1 kilometres from the hostel in Mos. Return to the hotel by coach transfer.
Day 3 - Wednesday 29th July | Redondela - Pontevedra 19.8km
After breakfast, you will continue your walk on the coastal Camino, starting in the city of Vigo, with the Bay of
Vigo to your left. This bay area was one of the settings for Jules Verne's Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the
Sea. Enjoy today at a relaxed pace before reaching Redondela, known as the Village of the Viaducts due to the
two 19th century railroad viaducts in the town. Return to the hotel by coach transfer.
Day 4 - Thursday 30th July | Ponteveedra - Caldas de Reis 21.1km
Leave Pontevedra and head back into the countryside. This stage of the camino, to Caldas de Reis, is fairly
long but it is mostly flat. In Caldas de Reis, there is the opportunity to rest your tired feet and relax at one of
the town's spas, thanks to the nearby thermal springs.
Day 5 - Friday 31stJuly | Pontevedra to Caldas de Reis 18.6km
Today's stage is varied in terms of landscape, as the route winds through valleys, vineyards and chestnut or
eucalyptus forests. Today's route ends in Padr�n, the place where St. James' remains were taken following
his martyrdom in Jerusalem. Do not miss the opportunity to try the town's famous Padr�n peppers.
Day 6 - Saturday 1stAugust | Santiago de Compostela 24.4km
Today marks the final stage of the camino. First, hike towards Iria Flavia, where your ascent to the town of O
Milladoiro begins. Continue ascending to Agro dos Monteiros, the highest point of the Camino Portugues in
Galicia, from where you get your first glimpse of Santiago de Compostela and the towers of the cathedral in
the distance. Enter the ancient city and walk the final steps to reach the famous Catedral Basilica de Santiago
de Compostela.
Day 7 - Sunday 2ndAugust | Padron to Santiago 18km
After breakfast in the hotel take the day free around Santiago, head to the Cathedral for the noon Pilgrims'
Mass, a special moment to reflect on your journey and a chance to see the famous swinging of the
Botafumeiro. Take time to visit the Tomb of St. James once more, marvel at the stunning architecture of the
Cathedral, and soak in the atmosphere. Afterwards, explore the charming, narrow cobbled streets of Santiago de Compostela and indulge in the local Galician cuisine at your leisure. In the evening, return to the
nearby hotel for a farewell dinner with the group to end the day.
Day 8 - Monday 3rd August | Day of Departure
After breakfast in the hotel we take the day for some free time around the city. Where you can take the time
for one last venture into the Cathedral's Square Spend the rest of the morning exploring the many
restaurants shops and cafes before our transfer to the airport for our flight home.
For those who do not wish to walk the full route, a selection of short walks (between 2.5km and 11km) will be available for each walk day. This can allow those who might not be able for the full exertion to get a good feel for the Camino.
bIt is advised that people wishing to partake in this walking pilgrimage consult their doctor on their fitness to take part before booking. Each walk day will consist of 5 - 8 hrs of moderately difficult walking with uneven and rough terrain in parts.
*It is our intention to follow the itinerary as outlined above, however due to many factors like local holidays, traffic or weather conditions it may be necessary to make changes to the order of events or even the cancelation of certain events.
