Proposed Pilgrimage Itinerary *
Day 1, Monday - Depart Dublin
Check - in at Dublin Airport for your direct Aer Lingus flight to Santiago de Compostela, on arrival you will be met by your guide and transferred to your hotel in A Coruna where you will stay in the 4 star AC Coruna Marriott Hotel or similar for 4 nights.
Day 2, Tuesday - Ferrol to Neda
Walk 15.5km approx. 3hrs
After breakfast depart your hotel with your walk guide for a transfer to Ferrol to begin your walk. The first stage to Neda is alongside the dramatic Ria Ferrol with a mix of city pavements, quiet country lanes, boardwalks, and woodland paths. The terrain is generally undemanding (level). At the end of today walk you will have time to relax and refresh before being picked up by your coach and returned to your hotel for dinner
Day 3, Wednesday - Neda to Pontedeume
Walk 16km approx. 3hrs 15mins
Enjoy your breakfast at the hotel and take the coach back to Neda. Leave Neda to take the delightful path alongside the estuary through Neda. There is a lovely beach at A Madalena which is a great spot to rest and relax. You will have time at the end of today's walk to explore Pontedeume before being collected by your coach and returned to hotel for dinner.
Day 4, Thursday - Pontedeume to Betanzos
Walk 20km approx. 4hrs
From Pontedeume the trail climbs up to give a spectacular view over Betanzos, Ares and Ferrol. The trail continues onto Mino by the way of a medieval stone bridge over the Baxio river. The town of Betanzos has some of the most interesting and artistic historical buildings in Galicia. Here you will meet your coach and return to your hotel.
Day 5, Friday - Betanzos to Bruma
Walk 25km approx. 5hrs
We pack up our bags and leave A Coruna and take the coach to Betanzos, Leave the coach and your bags to begin your days walk, a demanding stage with a steep climb out of Betanzos and into Hospital de Bruma.
Bruma is a small but delightful hamlet. Here you will be met by your coach and transferred to your 3-star hotel Hotel Gelmirez in Santiago where you will be reunited with your bags and check in for 3 nights.
Day 6, Saturday - Bruma to Sigueiro
Walk 26km approx. 5hrs
A gentler stage as we descend towards Sigueiro. Most of the day is spent on quiet country lanes relived by stretches on earth paths through woodland that offers shade. Some of the highlights today are the lovely historic Horreo, the 18th century Igrexa de San Paio de Buscas in A Rua town and the impressive colours of the forest Pick up and return to hotel.
Day 7, Sunday - Sigueiro to Santiago
Walk 16km approx. 3hrs
After breakfast, we take the short drive (20min) to Sigueiro. After crossing the Sigueiro Bridge over the Tambre river, we continue into the municipality of Santiago. The way continues along the river and lead to the �Fonte do Ingles� (The English Fountain). The way soon reaches Meixonfrio, site of the old inn where pilgrims and travellers would stop and rest. After passing a pre - Roman hill fort, where, according to the tradition each passing pilgrim would lay a stone on the already exiting pile, the Camino enters Santiago to reach its imposing cathedral. Here you can enjoy your achievement and witness the newly restored Cathedral and attend the pilgrim mass.
Day 8, Monday - Day of Departure
Free morning in Santiago before leaving hotel at lunch time for transfer to Santiago Airport for the return flight to Dublin.
For those who do not wish to walk the full route, a selection of short walks (between 2.5km and 11km) will be available for each walk day. This can allow those who might not be able for the full exertion to get a good feel for the Camino.
bIt is advised that people wishing to partake in this walking pilgrimage consult their doctor on their fitness to take part before booking. Each walk day will consist of 5 - 8 hrs of moderately difficult walking with uneven and rough terrain in parts.
*It is our intention to follow the itinerary as outlined above, however due to many factors like local holidays, traffic or weather conditions it may be necessary to make changes to the order of events or even the cancelation of certain events.
