Pilgrimage Itinerary

Friday, 19th October

We will depart in the morning from Dublin to Rome. Upon arrival we will transfer to the Hotel Porziunola in Assisi where we will stay for three nights on a half board basis.

In the afternoon we will celebrate the opening Mass of our pilgrimage in the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli and afterwards visit the chapel of the Porziuncola – Motherhouse of the Franciscan Order, see the chapel of the Transito where St. Francis died and the Rose Garden.


Saturday, 20th October

This morning we will travel to the monastery of St. Veronica Giuliani where we will celebrate Mass.

Afterwards we will visit the sanctuary at La Verna. In the afternoon we will see the procession which has taken place at La Verna each day since 1431 as the friars make their way in prayer along the Corridor of the Stigmata before arriving at the Chapel of the Stigmata where St. Francis received the Wounds of Christ in September 1224. We will have time for private prayer and reflection before returning to Assisi.

After our evening meal we will have the opportunity to participate in the weekly torchlight procession at the sanctuary of Santa Maria degli Angeli.


Sunday, 21st October

This morning we will visit the town of Assisi and celebrate Mass in the Basilica of St. Clare, founder of the Order of the Poor Clares.

After free time for lunch we will have a walking tour of the town which will include a visit to the Chiesa Nuova and the Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi. We will have the remainder of the afternoon at leisure for personal sightseeing.


Monday, 22nd October

After breakfast we will depart Assisi and travel to the Church of St. Francis in Foligno where we will have time for prayer before the mortal remains of St. Angela of Foligno. We will continue onto Loreto where we will stay in the San Francesco Hotel for one night on a half board basis.

In the afternoon we will celebrate Mass in the Basilica of the Holy House of Loreto and afterwards have time for private prayer and reflection.


Tuesday, 23rd October

This morning we will depart Loreto and travel to Lanciano, site of the first Eucharistic Miracle of the Catholic Church. We will celebrate Mass and afterwards have time for lunch.

In the afternoon we will continue onto San Giovanni Rotondo where we will stay for three nights in the Hotel Centro di Spiritualitá Padre Pio.


Wednesday, 24th October

After morning Mass we will have a tour of the sanctuary. We will visit the capuchin friary and see the cell where Padre Pio lived and died and the crucifix before which he received the Stigmata. We will continue onto the Church of St. Pio of Pietrelcina and have time for prayer in the crypt before the mortal remains of this great saint of our time.

In the afternoon we will visit St. Matthew’s monastery and receive a blessing with the relic of St. Matthew and holy oil. After time for prayer we will return to San Giovanni Rotondo and walk the Way of the Cross.


Thursday, 25th October

This morning we will travel to the town of Monte Sant’Angelo and celebrate Mass at the Shrine of St. Michael the Archangel, the oldest shrine in Western Europe dedicated to the Archangel Michael. After Mass at the sacred cave we will have time at leisure for shopping and sightseeing.

We will have the afternoon free for private prayer and reflection.


Friday, 26th October

After breakfast we will depart from San Giovanni Rotondo and travel to Naples airport for our return flight to Dublin.

*It is our intention to follow the itinerary as outlined above, however due to many factors like local holidays, traffic or weather conditions it may be necessary to make changes to the order of events or even the cancelation of certain events.
