Pilgrimage Itinerary

Saturday, 22nd September

We will depart in the afternoon from Dublin to Bologna. Upon arrival we will be met by our Tour Escort and transfer to the Unaway Hotel Bologna San Lazzaro where we will stay for one night on a bed and breakfast basis.

Sunday, 23rd September

After breakfast we will check out of our hotel and travel into the centre of Bologna where we will celebrate Mass in the Basilica of St. Dominic and afterwards venerate the remains of the saint, founder of the Dominican Order. We will have a tour of the basilica with time to admire the vast collection of art treasures created by some of the greatest Italian artists, including Arnolfo di Cambio and Michelangelo and after time for lunch we will transfer to Loreto where we will stay in the four star Hotel San Francesco for three nights on a half board basis.

Monday, 24th September

This morning we will celebrate Mass in the Basilica of the Holy House of Loreto, one of the most revered Marian shrines in the world. Afterwards we will visit the Holy House of Loreto, believed to be the same house where Our Lady was born, grew up and where the Annunciation took place.

We will have lunch in Loreto and have the afternoon at leisure for private prayer.

Tuesday, 25th September

This morning we will celebrate Mass at the Shrine of St. Joseph of Cupertino, famous for his ecstasies, miracles, and for the gift of levitation, reported by numerous eye-witnesses who named him "the flying Friar." He arrived in Osimo in 1657, where he continued to experience supernatural manifestations of God’s favours daily until his death on September 18th, 1663 at the age of 60 years.

After free time for lunch we will visit the sanctuary of Maria Goretti. Inside the church we will venerate the statue and relic of Maria Goretti and visit the tomb of her mother. We will continue onto the house where Maria was born and have time for prayer in the small chapel before returning to our hotel for our evening meal.

Wednesday, 26th September

This morning we will depart Loreto and travel to Lanciano, site of the first Eucharistic Miracle of the Catholic Church. We will celebrate Mass and afterwards have time for private prayer and reflection. After free time for lunch we will continue onto San Giovanni Rotondo where we will stay in the Hotel Colonne for four nights on a full board basis.

Thursday, 27th September

Our pilgrimage to San Giovanni Rotondo will begin with Mass in the ancient church and visit to the English office where we will receive a blessing with the glove and crucifix of the humble friar.

In the afternoon we will have a guided tour of the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Grace. We will visit the church where Padre Pio celebrated his last Mass and the old tomb where the remains of St. Pio rested for over 40 years. In the capuchin friary we will see the cell where Padre Pio lived and died and afterwards have time for prayer in front of the crucifix before which Padre Pio received the Stigmata, over 100 years ago.

Our tour will continue with a visit the Church of St. Pio of Pietrelcina where, after a visit to the upper church and time for prayer in the Adoration Chapel we will arrive at the crypt where we will have time for prayer before the mortal remains of this great saint of our time, whose 50th anniversary we celebrate this year.

Friday, 28th September

This morning we will travel to the Shrine of St. Michael the Archangel and celebrate Mass at the sacred cave. After time for shopping in Monte Sant’Angelo and as we return to San Giovanni Rotondo we will visit the cemetery where the parents of Padre Pio, Mary Pyle, Fr. Alessio, Fr. Joseph and Fr. Ermelindo are buried.

In the afternoon we will visit St. Matthew’s monastery where we will receive a blessing with the relic of St. Matthew and the holy oil.

Saturday, 29th September

This morning we will celebrate Mass in the hospital, ‘Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza’ and have a guided tour of what is considered Padre Pio’s greatest creation. We will walk the Way of the Cross and have the afternoon at leisure for private prayer and sightseeing. After dinner we will have the opportunity to attend the Marian Torchlight Procession which will take place at the sanctuary.

Sunday, 30th September

This morning we will depart San Giovanni Rotondo and travel to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Incoronata. Tradition has it that, in April 1001, Our Lady appeared on an oak tree in the forest of Cervaro to the Count of Ariano Irpino and asked that a church be built on the site. We will have time for prayer and receive a blessing with the holy oils.

We will continue onto Piana Romana where we will celebrate Mass and afterwards see the tree beneath which Padre Pio received the invisible stigmata. After our picnic lunch we will transfer to Pietrelcina, birthplace of St. Pio and enjoy a walking tour of the town.

In the afternoon we will transfer to the Hotel Pompeii Resort where we will stay for one night on a half board basis. After checking into our hotel we will have the remainder of the evening at leisure.

Monday, 1st October

This morning we will celebrate Mass in the Basilica of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary of Pompeii and afterwards venerate the painting of ‘Our Lady of the Holy Rosary’. After some time for private prayer we will transfer to Naples airport for our return flight to Dublin, arriving into Dublin at approximately 3.35 pm.
