Friday, 29th June
We will depart in the afternoon from Dublin to Naples. Upon arrival in Naples we will be met by our Tour Escort and transfer to the town of Pietrelcina where we will stay in the Lombardi Park Hotel for the following two nights – refreshments on arrival.
Saturday, 30th June
This morning we will celebrate the opening Mass of our pilgrimage in the Church of Sant’Anna where Francesco Forgione (the future Padre Pio) was baptised. Afterwards we will walk through the town visiting the Forgione family home and see the room where Padre Pio was born. After free time for lunch in Pietrelcina we will visit Piana Romana and see the tree beneath which Padre Pio received the Invisible Stigmata.
In the afternoon we will visit the capuchin friary in nearby Morcone where Padre Pio entered on the 6th of January 1903. We will have a tour of the friary and see the cell of the young novice. We will travel onto Benevento and visit the cathedral where Padre Pio was ordained in August 1910 and afterwards return to Pietrelcina where we will have dinner in a local restaurant.
Sunday, 1st July
This morning we will depart Pietrelcina and celebrate Mass in Campobasso where Padre Pio stayed during a period of ill-health. We will continue in the footsteps of the great saint with a visit to the capuchin friary of Sant’Anna in Foggia where Padre Pio arrived in February 1916. We will visit the museum and have time for prayer in the ancient church before continuing onto San Giovanni Rotondo where we will stay in the Hotel Colonne for the following five nights.
Monday, 2nd July
This morning we will celebrate Mass in the ancient church and afterwards visit the English Office where we will receive a blessing with the glove and crucifix of the humble friar.
In the afternoon we will visit the capuchin friary and see the cell where Padre Pio lived and died and the crucifix before which he received the Stigmata, almost 100 years ago. We will continue onto the Church of St. Pio of Pietrelcina. After a visit to the upper church and time for prayer in the Chapel of Adoration we will arrive in the crypt and have time for private prayer before the mortal remains of the great saint of our time.
Tuesday, 3rd July
After breakfast we will travel to the town of Monte Sant’ Angelo. We will celebrate Mass in the sacred cave and have free time for lunch.
In the afternoon we will enjoy a drive along the spectacular coastline as we make our way to the fishing town of Vieste. We will have a leisurely afternoon with time to take a stroll through the historical centre with its majestic castle and its 10th century cathedral, to spend some time shopping or indeed enjoy stroll along the picturesque promenade. As we return to San Giovanni Rotondo we will pass by the Umbra Forest, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with its orchestra of century old trees, numerous varieties of orchids and famous roe deer.
Wednesday, 4th July
We will spend our morning in the town of San Marco in Lamis where we will have time to browse the local markets and afterwards visit St. Matthew’s monastery where we will receive a blessing with the relic of St. Matthew and holy oil.
In the afternoon we will visit the house of Mary Pyle, on this the year of the 50th anniversary of her death. This wonderful lady gave up her wealthy lifestyle and came to San Giovanni Rotondo where she opened her door to the many pilgrims and cared for both Padre Pios parents in their final days. Afterwards we will walk the Way of the Cross.
Thursday, 5th July
This morning we will celebrate Mass in the hospital, ‘Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza.’ and afterwards take a tour of the hospital, considered to have been Padre Pio’s greatest creation.
We will have the afternoon at leisure to return to the crypt and have time for private prayer.
Friday, 6th July
After breakfast we will depart San Giovanni Rotondo and travel to Bari airport for our return flight to Dublin.
