Pilgrimage Itinerary

Friday, 1st June

This morning we will depart from Dublin to Bari. Upon arrival in Bari we will be met by our tour escort and transfer to San Giovanni Rotondo where we will stay in the Hotel Colonne for three nights on a full board basis.

In the afternoon we will celebrate the opening Mass of our pilgrimage and afterwards visit the Church of St. Pio of Pietrelcina. After a tour of the upper church and visit to the Chapel of Adoration we will arrive at the mosaic-lined crypt and will have time for prayer before the mortal remains of the great saint of our time.

Saturday, 2nd June

After breakfast we will celebrate Mass and afterwards visit the English Office where we will hear of the incredible life of St. Pio and receive a blessing with the glove and crucifix of the humble friar.

In the afternoon we will enjoy a tour of the sanctuary visiting the Church of Our Lady of Grace where Padre Pio celebrated his final Mass, the old tomb where the remains of Padre Pio rested for over forty years and the capuchin friary where Padre Pio lived and died. Our tour of the sanctuary will end at the crucifix in the choir loft of the ancient church where Padre Pio received the gift of the Stigmata almost 100 years ago.

This evening, after dinner, we will have the opportunity to participate in the Marian torchlight procession which will take place at the sanctuary.

Sunday, 3rd June

After breakfast we will walk the Way of the Cross and afterwards have time for private prayer.

In the afternoon we will travel to Monte Sant’ Angelo, home to the oldest shrine in Western Europe dedicated to the Archangel Michael. We will celebrate Mass at the sacred cave and afterwards have time at leisure for sightseeing.

Before returning to San Giovanni Rotondo we will call to St. Matthew’s monastery where we will receive a blessing with the relic of St. Matthew and holy oil.

Monday, 4th June

This morning we will celebrate Mass in the hospital, ‘Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza’ and afterwards have a tour of the hospital, considered Padre Pio’s greatest creation.

After lunch we will depart San Giovanni Rotondo and travel to the town of Trani. We will have time at leisure to stroll through the extensive and beautiful city gardens with its wonderful flower displays and decorated fountains.

We will have time to relax and enjoy the view of the picturesque harbour from one of the many ice-cream bars and cafes or visit Trani’s cathedral, the Cathedral of St. Nicholas the Pilgrim, a Greek who came to Trani in the 11th century. At over 30 metres high the cathedral is regarded as one of the greatest medieval churches in Europe.

After a relaxing afternoon we will transfer to Bari airport for our return flight to Dublin.

*It is our intention to follow the itinerary as outlined above, however due to many factors like local holidays, traffic or weather conditions it may be necessary to make changes to the order of events or even the cancelation of certain events.
