Pilgrimage Itinerary

DAY 1 – Friday, 27th October We will depart in the morning from Dublin to Bari. Upon arrival in Bari we will be met by our Tour Escort and transfer to San Giovanni Rotondo with lunch on arrival. We will celebrate the opening Mass of our pilgrimage and return to our hotel for evening meal. DAY 2 – Saturday, 28th October This morning we will celebrate Mass in the ancient church where St. Pio celebrated Mass. We will visit the English Office where we will hear about the incredible life of St. Pio and receive a blessing with the glove and crucifix of the humble friar. We will return to our hotel for lunch. In the afternoon we will have a walking tour of the sanctuary. We will visit the old tomb where the remains of Padre Pio rested for almost forty years before continuing onto the capuchin friary where we will see the cell where Padre Pio lived and died. Our tour will end with a visit to the Church of St. Pio of Pietrelcina where we will have time for private prayer and reflection before the mortal remains of the saint. We will return to our hotel for our evening meal. DAY 3 – Sunday, 29th October This morning we will have a tour of the hospital in San Giovanni Rotondo’ ‘Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza’, considered to be Padre Pio’s greatest creation. We will walk the Way of the Cross before returning to our hotel for lunch. Upon our return to San Giovanni Rotondo we will visit the cemetery where the parents of Padre Pio, Fr. Alessio and Fr. Ermelindo are buried. DAY 4 – Monday, 30th October This morning we will travel to Monte Sant’ Angelo, home to the oldest shrine in Western Europe dedicated to the Archangel Michael. We will celebrate Mass at the sacred cave and afterwards have free time for sightseeing before returning to San Giovanni Rotondo. In the afternoon we will visit St. Matthew’s monastery where we will have a blessing with the relic of St. Matthew and holy oils before returning to our hotel for evening meal. DAY 5 – Tuesday, 31st October After breakfast we will depart San Giovanni Rotondo and travel to Pietrelcina, the birthplace of Padre Pio. We will take a walking tour of the town which will include a visit to the home of Padre Pio’s family and the Church of Sant’ Anna where Padre Pio was baptised. After free time for lunch we will travel to the Shrine of St. Gerard Majella in Materdomini where we will celebrate Mass. We will check into our nearby hotel where we will stay for one night on a half board basis. DAY 6 – Wednesday, 1st November This morning we will have a tour of the Shrine of St. Gerard Majella, patron saint for unborn children and expectant mothers and afterwards have time for private prayer. After free time for lunch we will travel to the Shrine of St. Philomena where we will celebrate the closing Mass of our pilgrimage. St. Philomena was martyred in the 4th century when she was no more than 14 years old. Her remains were discovered in the Catacombs of St. Priscilla in Rome and brought to Mugnano del Cardinale. Many miracles were reported and pilgrims still visit the shrine today. We will have a blessing with the relic of St. Philomena and have time for private prayer. Afterwards we will transfer to Naples airport for our return flight to Dublin, arriving into Dublin at 20:30hrs.

*It is our intention to follow the itinerary as outlined above, however due to many factors like local holidays, traffic or weather conditions it may be necessary to make changes to the order of events or even the cancelation of certain events.
