Pilgrimage Itinerary

Day 1 – Tuesday, 29 May

11.00am check-in at Dublin airport T2 for Aer Lingus flight EI742 to Santiago de Compostela, departing at 13.05 arriving at 16.20. Coach transfer to hotel in Sarria for overnight dinner, bed & breakfast.

Day 2 – Wednesday, 30 May

Commence the Camino at the monastery of La Magdalena, cross the river Celeiro, and walk on a mainly asphalt track via the villages of Barbadelo, Mercado, Mouzos, Peruscallo, Brea, Ferreiros, Rozas, Moimentos, and cross the river Mino – where we see the submerged village - and enter Portomarin. Hotel dinner & overnight.
Today’s walk: 22 km

Day 3 – Thursday, 31 May

Cross the Belesar reservoir, and around Monte San Antonio, through the villages of Gonzar, Castromaior, Ventas de Naron, and cross the Sierra de Ligonde. Continue via Eirexe, Portos, and Mamurria to Palas de Rei. Hotel dinner & overnight.
Today’s walk: 24 km.

Day 4 – Friday, 1 June

Walk via San Xulian, Porto de Bois, Cornixa, and cross the medieval bridge at Fuerlos. Continue through Melide, Peroxa, and Boente to Castaneda. Transfer to hotel for dinner, bed & breakfast.
Today’s walk: 22 km.

Day 5 – Saturday, 2 June

Transfer to Castaneda. Walk through Arzua and continue via the villages of Cortobe, Calzada, Ferreiros, Salceda, Xen, to Santa Irene. Transfer to hotel for dinner, bed & breakfast.
Today’s walk: 20 km

Day 6 – Sunday, 3 June

Transfer to Santa Irene. Walk via Amenal and Santiago airport to Lavacolla. Here, we follow tradition, by washing in the river Lauamentula. Here also, we get to taste Tarte Santiago, and local wines. Continue our walk through Vilamaior and San Marcos to Monte do Gozo, Dinner & overnight at hotel.

Day 7 - Monday, 4 June

Final walk this morning to our goal – the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. Enter by the Portico of Glory, see the Jesse Tree, and Master Mateo. Embrace the statue of St James above the High Altar, and visit his tomb. Take part in the Pilgrims Mass at noon and enjoy the swinging of the Botafumiero. Nearby, we call to the Pilgrims office to present our “Passports” and receive our certificates of achievement. Final dinner & overnight at hotel.

Day 8 - Sunday, 5 June

Morning free in Santiago de Compostela. 14.30 transfer to Santiago airport for return Aer Lingus flight to Dublin departing at 17.00 and arriving at 18.10.
