Pilgrimage Itinerary


8am check-in at Dublin airport for Ryanair flight to Biarritz departing at 10.05 and arriving at 13.10. Coach drive via St Jean Pied-de-Port, to Roncesvalles and commence our first walk on the Camino, via Burguete to Espinal. Drive to Pamplona for 1 night, dinner, bed & breakfast. Todays walk : 8km.


Drive to Zariquiegui. A gentle climb takes us past the “Fountain of Denial” and over the Sierra del Perdon, through the villages of Uterga and Muruzabal to Obanos. Drive to Estella and walk via the free flowing wine fountain, and the Monastery of Irache to Azqueta. Coach to Santo Domingo and visit the Cathedral containing the tomb of St Dominic, and hear the legend of the roasted cock. Overnight, dinner, bed & breakfast in Santo Domingo. Todays walks : 19km.


From Santo Domingo we walk across the River Oja, and pass the “Cross of the Brave” to Granon on the hill of Cerro Mirabel. Continue our walk on the road built by St Dominic of the Causeway, to Redecilla. Here, in the parish church of the Virgin of the Road, we see one of the sculptural jewels of the Camino – a 12th century Romanasque Baptismal Font. Our walk continues through Castildelgado, Viloria de Rioja, and Villamayor to Belorado. Drive on to the outskirts of Burgos for overnight, dinner, bed & breakfast. Todays walk : 22km.


In Burgos we visit the Cathedral and see tomb of El Cid, the Golden Staircase and the Flexible Crucifix. Drive to Boadilla and walk alongside the Canal de Castilla to Fromista. In the town Square we see the statue of St Elmo and the nearby churches of St Martin & St Peter. Walk to Poblacion and continue by the River Ucieza, through Villovieco, pass the Hermitage of the Virgen del Rio, into Villacazar. Drive to our hotel in Leon for 1 night, dinner, bed & breakfast Todays walks : 20 km.


Drive to Monte Irago and commence our walk at the ruined village of Foncebadon. At the Cruz de Ferro, we pause and conform with an ancient tradition. Continue through the abandoned village of Manjarin with some spectacular views, to El Acebo. Our afternoon walk brings us to the small town of Molinaseca, from where we take our coach to Ponferrada for overnight, dinner, bed & breakfast. Todays walks : 21km.


Drive to O Cebreiro, a mountain-top village with thatched Palozas and the Church of the Eucharistic Miracle. Walk from Capilla San Roque through Padornelo, pass the church of Santa Maria – commissioned by the Order of Malta – to Fonfria. Continue through the hamlets of Biduedo, Filloval and Ramil to Triacastela. Drive via Sarria to Lugo for overnight, dinner, bed & breakfast. Todays walks : 21 km.


Drive to Arca. Walk via San Anton, Amenal, San Paio and Santiago airport to Lavacolla for the traditional wash in the River Lauramentula. Continue to our goal – Santiago de Compostela and visit the Cathedral of St James. See the Portico of Glory, the Jesse Tree, and greet Master Mateo. Embrace the Statue of St James above the High Altar, and visit his tomb in the Crypt. Check into hotel for dinner, bed & breakfast. Todays walk : 19km.


Morning free in Santiago. Take part in the Pilgrims Mass at 12 noon. 14.30 transfer to Santiago airport for Air Lingus flight to Dublin departing at 17.00. arriving 18.10.
