Day 1 - Arrive Rome
Departure to Rome. Upon arrival meet our
tour escort and transfer to Assisi, stopping for
dinner enroute. Check into our hotel where we
will stay for two nights on a half board basis.
Day 2 - Assisi
Celebrate the opening Mass of our pilgrimage
in the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli.
Visit the chapel of the Porziuncola – chapel of
St. Francis first community, the chapel of the
Transito where St. Francis died and the famous
Rose Garden. Transfer to the town of Assisi
with free time for lunch. In the afternoon have
a walking tour of the medieval town of Assisi
which will include a visit to the Basilica of St.
Francis and the Basilica of St. Clare, founder
of the Order of the Poor Clares. Have some
time at leisure for personal sightseeing before
returning to our hotel for evening meal.
Day 3 - Roccaporena & Cascia
This morning we depart Assisi to Roccaporena,
birthplace of St. Rita. The town preserves the
history of St. Rita as a young girl, a bride, a
mother and later as a widow. Visit the house
where St. Rita was born, the 13th century
Church of San Montano where St. Rita was
married and the Garden of the Miracle, which
relates to the story of the last days of St. Rita’s
life. Continue onto the town of Cascia where
we will stay for one night on a full board basis.
This afternoon we visit the monastery where St.
Rita lived for over forty years as an Augustinian
nun. Afterwards visit the Basilica of St. Rita
where we will celebrate Mass and afterwards
have time for private prayer before returning to
our hotel.
Day 4 - Lanciano
This morning we depart Cascia and travel to
Lanciano, site of the first Eucharistic Miracle of
the Catholic Church. Celebrate Mass and have
time for prayer. After lunch continue onto San
Giovanni Rotondo where we will stay for four
nights on a full board basis.
Day 5 - San Giovanni Rotondo
Morning Mass in the ancient Church of Santa
Maria delle Grazie where Padre Pio celebrated
Mass and afterwards visit the English Office to
hear of the incredible life of St. Pio and receive a
blessing with the glove and crucifix of the saint.
Return to our hotel for lunch. This afternoon
take a guided tour of the sanctuary. Visit the
capuchin friary where Padre Pio lived and died
and see the crucifix before which Padre Pio
received the Stigmata. Complete our tour with
a visit to the crypt in the Church of St. Pio of
Pietrelcina where we will have time for prayer
before the mortal remains of the Saint. We will
return to our hotel for evening meal.
Day 6 - Monte Sant’Angelo
This morning we travel to the town of Monte
Sant’Angelo, home to the oldest shrine in
Western Europe dedicated to the Archangel
Michael. Celebrate Mass at the sacred cave and
afterwards have time at leisure to explore the
town. On our return to San Giovanni Rotondo
we visit the cemetery where the parents of Padre
Pio, Mary Pyle and our dear friends Fr. Alessio
