With a vast array of Shrines in Italy a well planned and executed
itinerary is essential for a successful pilgrimage. Our dedicated Italy
manager makes sure that this is the case. With in-depth knowledge of
each shrine and Italy itself, each itinerary can be tailored to suit each
group without compromising on it’s quality.
Assisi
Assisi is famous as
the birthplace of St.
Francis and St. Clare.
A walk through this
medieval
town
will take you to
the 13th century Basilica of
St. Francis housing impressive frescoes. With
such structures including the Cathedral of San
Rufino, Basilica of St. Clare and the Basilica of
Santa Maria degli Angeli, UNESCO collectively
designated the Franciscan structures of Assisi as
World Heritage Sites. Following the discoveries
of the bodies of St. Francis and St. Clare, Assisi
has become a destination for pilgrims who
come to pray at the tombs of the two saints.
Pietrelcina
Pietrelcina, the birthplace of Francesco
Forgione, the future Padre Pio, has become a
popular place of pilgrimage. In this picturesque
town one can visit the Forgione family home,
the Church of Sant’Anna where Padre Pio
was baptised and the parish church where he
celebrated his first Mass.
Monte Sant’Angelo
The small town of Monte Sant’Angelo is home to
the oldest shrine in Western Europe dedicated
to the Archangel Michael and associated with
apparitions of the Archangel that took place in
the fourth century. The sacred cave has been a
popular place of pilgrimage for many centuries.
Lanciano
The medieval town of Lanciano is the site of the
first Eucharistic Miracle of the Catholic church.
The miracle dates back to the 8th century and
took place in the Church of St. Legontian as a
Basilian monk was struggling with his faith,
doubting the real presence of Jesus in the
Eucharist. At the two-fold consecration the
bread turned into real flesh and the wine into
real blood, restoring the monk’s faith. Since
1713 the Host-Flesh has been preserved in an
artistic silver Ostensorium and is now kept on
display for veneration in the Church of San
Francesco in Lanciano.
Loreto
Tradition recounts that the Holy House of
Loreto is the same walled chamber that existed
in Nazareth where the Blessed Virgin Mary,
received the Annunciation and lived during the
childhood of Jesus. Tradition recounts that the
house was miraculously transported by angels
to Teresatto, then to Recanati before settling in
the town of Loreto.
